DNI Recovery called my place of business and I had some questions about the debt they claim I owe. The lady who called just kept threatening me with wage garnishments and told me my debt was $2400.00 including the debt and other fees. I stated to her that how can I have a wage garnishment when I have not been to court for this debt. She stated to me that when I took out the payday loan debt that I signed a waiver involving court preceedings. I have no idea what she is talking about. I then asked for the address of the creditor of the debt I owe and she refused to give that to me stating that she did not have the address nor the phone number of the company she is collecting the debt for. I thought this was strange. I then asked her to send me a letter verifying this debt and she refused to do that as well stating that the creditor has sent out numerous correspondence to me and they were sent back. I know that's a lie, I never send letters back.
What concerns me the most is that these people have my social security number and my address. I don't like this at all. What can be done about this?

When you take out a payday loan online, many times there will be something in the contract that says you are agreeing to a voluntary wage assignment if you do not pay on the loan according to the company's terms. A voluntary wage assignment is the payday loan industry's term for wage garnishment. However, since it is VOLUNTARY, you have the write to revoke it (in writing) at any time. You would need to compose a letter stating that effective immediately, you are hereby revoking any voluntary wage assignments you may have agreed to when accepting a payday loan from the company, and state that in addition to providing them with this voluntary wage assignment revocation, you are also providing a copy of it to your employer's payroll dept. This way, they cannot try to sneak in something to your payroll dept to get your wages garnished. Most payroll personnel know that wages shouldn't be garnished without a court order, but there are the odd ones who fall for the voluntary wage assignment paperwork these payday loan companies provide to them. Any legitimate debt collector must send you something in writing regarding any debts they are trying to collect on within 5 days of making contact with you for the first time. You then have 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt and ask them for verification. This is the law. If the collector is in-house and employed by the original creditor rather than an outside agency, they do not have to follow the same rules. They can continue calling you at home and work after you've asked them not to, and they do not have to verify the debt in the same manner. There are numerous posts about DNI/DNR Recovery, and they are definitely a scam. Do not confirm your personal details, and do not give them any of your bank/credit card info. If they continue to harass you, file online complaints at ftc.gov and with your state's Attorney General's office, so they can investigate the matter.

i have been harassed by this company for the last year or so. Calling numerous times to my place of employment and threatening to take me to court or garnish my wages. I have even had the employer give them their lawyer to stop harassing me at work and tying up all incoming lines to work.

I did have some debts with some payday loans I thought they were legit I guess they will get in trouble by the feds when I go to bankruptcy court and yes I included this company in my filing
