This company is suing for a debt that I owe Capitol One. I tried to negotiate to pay my loan, but they refused my offer. I don’t deny that I need to pay for my debt, but I have found their practices legitimately barbaric.

Is it true they are under investigation in California for violation of professional conduct? And if so, where would I find this information.

    Thank you,

    • Benjamin K says:

They won’t settle. They don’t even want to accept payment in full. Their scam is to get a judgement against you in an amount that is 3 or 4 times more than the actual debt for “legal fees” and then they will drain your bank account.

  2. annie says:

The same thing happened to me, but they’re not suing me.. they’re just asking me if i can pay the money that i owed from capital one before the end of the month (january 2010, then i will be okay.. but i told the guy that i spoke with that i will just give him a call and he gave 3days to do that.. i didnt give him any info about my bank acct yet and now i’m confused if i should because there’s an article about them that says they are a fraud..

  3. Catherine Meek says:

THey are currently going after me for a card I had with Cap. One as well. I told them that I would be willing to make small payments ($65 a month is all I can spare ), untill I get my taxes in 6 months, but they refused to work with me. Instead they say that unless I pay them $800 of the $2800 that they are willing to settle with that I will be taken to court and have my wages garnished. They are constantly calling me at work and harassing my co-workers, yet when I try to call back “Lyn”, she is never there. Something about them feels dirty and yes, barbaric.

  4. Rod says:

I have tried patiently for years to work with LRLO regarding a CapOne credit card – to no avail. When first contacted by LRLO, they demanded payment in full when all other CC companies were negotiating to settle debts. After the initial phone call, they filed for a lien and won an immediate judgment before I even knew what was happening. It’s been a never ending saga from there. My wages have been garnished and have completed that program…only to find that there is new (large) balance not disclosed on the Garnishment. I WAS TOLD BY LRLO THAT I COULD “APPLY” FOR A STATEMENT TO BE ISSUED TO ME SO I COULD FIND OUT WHAT THE BALANCE WAS.

Clearly, they are not in the business of resolving debt for their client. LRLO is in the business of creating additional debt through added interest and keep the client in the dark while bilking them for additional 000’s of dollars. This is their primary source of revenue.

I’ve paid LRLO 2x what the original debt was with Capital One. Now they are going for 3x.

Does anyone know a good attorney that wants to bury LRLO? I can’t be the only one they are doing this to…seems to me it would make for a good class action.

    • Shari says:

I’m so sorry that you too are having to deal with these monsters. They have made my life hell for so many years. I was on the brink of just filing bankruptcy on them when I started doing an internet search & found that I’m not alone.
A class action suit needs to be created, I agree. If one has been started, please let me know so I can add myself. Thank you.

      • ashley says:

You have to file a claim of exemption. I just did. They opposed of course. I have to be in court on Monday. I will be there and I have all my exceptions to show the judge. Legal recovery said that I don’t have to pay for gas. We will see.

  5. Carol says:

Look on the CAstate bar website, Legal Recovery Law Office is owned by attorney Mark D. Walsh and his law license was just suspended for thirty days which took effect Nov. 28, 2013 and then he has to do a few years of probation. The docs regarding this matter is public record and scroll down to the end of his page to view the state bar reasons and decisions. Several more examples of them not even showing up in court! Shame on Capital one for hiring such a law firm. I don’t know if it will help you, but check the attorneys name if they do show up and also on your papers to make sure Mr. Walsh is the attorney of record or if he passed it to another attorney who works for him. One day hopefully the state bar will take strong action about such intimidation practices and unethical tactics, as the amount of lawsuits against them for consumer violations are building fast. Look how many have filed against them in southern district court alone. Again, shame on Capital One!

  6. Shari says:

Mark D. Walsh & their office is a perfect example of why our credit card laws need to change. A company down in San Diego (go figure) had my Cap One credit card info for a cell phone purchase. They went out of business but before doing so, they made a fraud charge. Cap One refused to resolve so I refused to pay thinking that it would go away after a certain amount of years. It didn’t. The debt got purchased by a group of attorneys down in San Diego, got bounced back & forth a bit, then when it got big enough. Mark D. Walsh went & got a judgment against me. It didn’t matter that I was on SSI, only getting $700 mo to live on. I was never served to show up in court, they got the judgment & then started coming after me like no tomorrow. They turned a credit card with a max of $1k, with a $400 balance into a $9k+ judgement against me. They know I don’t have any money but in a phone conversation the real truth came out, I was told to go to my rich family for the money. How they knew this?
This firm has done many people dirty from what I have read lately & now that Mark D. Walsh is on probation, this might be a good time for us all to stand up, start a class action suit & get these wrongful judgments against us overturned.

  7. Ruth Nambooze says:

I have been paying because they sued me…but now they are not taking any payments, they didn’t call or write…tried to call Capital One but they also didn’t answer, no representative answered and the machine cut it off. Please anyone let me know what is going on.

  8. Mary Weather says:

LRLO is out of business. I called the number listed on their website for Capital One and was told that my account is paid in full. I asked for a letter stating that fact and rep had no problem sending it out. Glad I don’t have to deal with these people anymore!
